Match Report 21.11.09: Faces Reserves 0 Rayleigh Town Reserves 3
Faces entertained Rayleigh Town in the first match since the managerial shake up which resulted in Gareth Collins taking over (many people believe promoted!) as reserve team manager.
Before the match, the team spirit and banter was as good as it has been with Jeff Wilks supplying the changing room beats. The mood then changed when Garth announced Craig Critchell as new captain of the reserves!! That being said the spirit was still high when the game kicked off .
The game started with both teams enjoying their fair share of possesion but the Faces defence was undone twice in the first 20 minutes with long balls over the top which were not dealt with and the Rayleigh strikers slotted them passed debutant goalkeeper Alfie Cross. Score 0-2.
Faces then decided to wake up and had the majority of the game for the remaining 25 minutes of the half with James Imber working his socks off upfront and Daniel Dani being here, there and everywhere.
A half time discussion gave the lads the hunger to get back in the game, which we all thought was possible, and Faces started the second half as they ended the first, that was until Stuart David was shielding the ball out and even though the ball went out of play, the Rayleigh winger carried on playing whilst most of the Faces players were waiting for the ref's whistle which never came and Rayleigh smashed home there 3rd goal of the game into the top right hand corner. Stuart David was then sent off before the game got back underway due to his choice words to the referee.
Faces were then put under alot of pressure for the remaining 30 minutes of the game but impressive performances from Daniel Redgrave, Ben Halsey and Craig Critchell meant that Rayleigh couldn't add to their tally and although a good chance from Abs Mahmood could not be converted the scoreline finished up at 3-0.
Managers verdict: Tough game against a good side, good effort when down to 10
Start Man - James Imber - Terrific performance on his return to the side.
