Match Report 25.04.09: Faces Reserves 3 Kelvedon Hatch Reserves 0

Faces took on champions Kelvedon Hatch in their final fixture of the season knowing only a win would give them any hope of securing promotion.

Some emotional shit was spurted out by me in the dressing before the game and the boys were charged up and ready to go. The game began at a ferocious pace with both sides playing some lovely stuff but also producing some crunching tackles.

Faces began to carve out chances, Jon Wightman and Liam Dooley coming close to opening the scoring. The boys were clearly up for it and the spirit of the team was epitomised by Jon Wightman chasing down everything, Liam heading everything and everyone and the inspirational Danny Reds flying into every tackle like his life depended on it.

The deadlock was broken in the 30th minute when a flowing move resulted in Jon Wightman laying of the ball for Jeff Wilks to fire in from the edge of the box to give the home side a deserved lead. Goal of the season in terms of team play and the importance of the goal.

The commitment was there for all to see when Jon & Craig both charged down the Kelvedon right back who clearly flustered and decided to throw "punches". Credit to the lads for not reacting. Half time score 1-0.

The half time team talk was "simples", same again please lads. Faces began the second half in lightning fashion with Damo provided quality from the right and Blakey linking the play tremendously. We really stepped up a gear and were rewarded when Liam Dooley forced the ball in from close range to make the score 2-0. Faces then began to relax and the football being played was superb. Then the ball broke from a corner and Damo volleyed in to make the score 3-0.

Effectively the game was over but Faces continued to create chances with Jon, Blakey, Damo & Craig all going close.

Performance of the season by far - if it isn't enough for promotion, so be it, could not be prouder of the boys

A big thank you to all the lads for you efforts - see you at the presentation

Also, a big thank you for Garthy running the line and then pulling the strings in midfield for the first team
